Specializing in women's health
In just thirty years, Théramex, a Monaco-based pharmaceutical company, has gained a reputation as an expert in women's health through its know-how in the field of gynecology. Its highly specific positioning in the market has made it one of the French leaders in the field of menopause therapy.
Théramex joined the Merck KGaA group when it became a subsidiary of Merck s.a. (then Merck-Lipha) in 1999. This has enabled the company to develop a range of original compounds and internationalize its products while maintaining its work force and its identity.

Theramex has developed a wide range of products for the treatment of hormone deficiencies during menopause
Lutényl®, the leading progestogen in terms of sales, developed by Théramex, accounts for a large percentage of its revenue. With the Estréva® estrogen range (two forms, oral and gel), Théramex is also gaining ground in France, which augurs well for the international market.
For women who do not want hormone treatment, Théramex has developed Evestrel®, a dietary supplement based on soy isoflavones, a natural alternative to estrogen treatment.
The Colpotrophine® range is aimed at the topical treatment of atrophic vulvovaginitis. Its original active ingredient, promestriene has made it the leader in its class (sales and units).
A worldwide-scale offensive
The excellent image of quality and rigour enjoyed by Théramex, together with Merck's know-how and worldwide sales network, and the wide range of products focused on women's health, have made it possible to strongly develop the international activities of the laboratory.
L’Institut Théramex
The aim of the Théramex Institute, founded in 1996, is to promote and support everything which contributes to improving women's health and to address ethical questions arising from the expansion of biotechnology in this field. The Institute's commitment is gradually materialising, particularly through its active support of medical training, into an exchange of information among health professionals, future-oriented reflection on today's problems and, of course, research. It is in this spirit of progress that each year, the Institute bestows an award on the authors of an original, top quality research project relating to women's health. In May 2001, the Institute started with a partner of WHO, a large-scale epidemiological and prospective survey on the factors which determine experience and behaviour of the women in their fifties when facing menopause.
